Interested In Joining?

Are you a current UVA student who is interested in Formula SAE, Baja SAE, or are just a fan of hands on education and experiential learning? Then you've come to the right place! 

Please follow the six steps below to become a member of Virginia Motorsports!

1. Join our Slack 
2. Pay Dues
3. Complete all Waivers/Forms 
4. Complete Safety Training

Joining Slack

1. Visit https://VirginiaMotorsports.Slack.com/signup
2. Sign up with your UVA email + verify email
3. Download the Slack Desktop App and/or iOS/Android App (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED)
4. Join any channels that you are interested in!
5. Ensure notifications are set up properly!
   1. Mobile
      1. Go to the "Home" page of Slack and click on "You" on the bottom right of the screen
      2. Select "Notifications"
      3. At the top, select "On mobile, notify me about... All new messages"
      4. At the bottom, enable "Notify Me About Replies to Threads" and "Show In-App Notifications"
      5. Hit "Troubleshoot Notifications" to test out your push notifications, and if all is good you are good to go!
         
         
   2. Desktop
      1. Go to Preferences -> Notification
      2. At the top, select "Notify me about... All new messages" and "Notify me about replies to threads I'm following"
         
         

Note: Feel free to modify these settings to your preference, but make sure you're still able to get notifications as Slack is our primary means of communication!

Paying Dues

There are two categories for dues: Membership and Social. In order to join the club as a member, you must pay the Membership dues, which includes a team shirt! 

Social dues are optional but help support the various teambuilding and networking events held throughout the year, such as barbecues, watch-parties, and track days where members can bond with friends, family, alumni, and sponsors over various refreshments and activities.

Safety Training

In order to participate in the hands-on aspects of the organization, you'll need to complete four safety trainings if you haven't already: three online and one in-person with our Shop Supervisor, Sebring Smith, or a TA.

To complete your in-person safety training, you'll need to schedule a time to do so in Lacy Hall. This will be arranged through Slack, so please join and look out for information regarding this!
