The University used to compete in the "Legends Cars" racing series several years ago. Teams purchased vehicles as a kit for roughly $10,000, and raced on dirt ovals. The cars were based on American hot rods from the 30's and 40's, but were reduced to 5/8ths scale and made of modern parts. Highlights include a Yamaha 1200cc motorcycle engine, coil-overs, a full roll-cage, and a sequential manual transmission. Our car has been sitting for over two years, but only required a carburetor cleaning to get started. It runs lean, and if we decide to get it racing on the track again, the tires, brakes, and battery would need replacement.
